get to know me
THIS IS ISYRAF
I am a student at Multimedia University Cyberjaya of 6 years as of the time I am writing this. I joined back in 2020 at a time where the world was going through a pandemic and spent my early university years separated from my classmates and lecturers which was unfortunate, because I am always looking forward to meeting and interacting with new people. I did my Foundation in Creative Multimedia from 2020 up till 2022 and entered VFX as my first choice due to my interest in movies and videos but sadly I wasn't cut out for the field as I struggled a lot with the given assignments and made a transition to Advertising Design which is what I am currently studying.

I joined MMU on a whim because my mom was a staff at Telekom Malaysia and I was offered a discount to study at the university. I wasn't really sure if creative multimedia was the right choice for me because my interest is more gravitated to story telling and not really designing. But I've learned a lot and met many wonderful people through the university which I am very grateful but not without some bad apples making me miserable.

I am a storyteller, I like writing my own stories and sharing it with my friends and people who share the same interest but I've yet to to publish anything as of this day and they are mostly just ideas and concepts that sit inside my phone and laptop but, because I write it helps with develop my imagination and cognitive to come up with ideas and concepts that are interesting but unfortunately I am not the artistic type and cannot draw out or illustrate what my world would look like on a piece of paper. I've tried over the years but I am a bit of a stickler for visuals and my drawings aren't good enough to support what I write.

Final Year Project TVC
This is a video commercial for my final year project campaign. The campaign was for a Skintific product and my group's big idea for the campaign was this crew of guys who would ambush you in public spaces to groom your face so you look more handsome after using the product. I did the shooting with a different script in mind but then after the production presentation, I was advised to reshoot and make it more exciting and change the focus, but because of time constraints I wasn't able to secure the actors again so I reused the footage I already had and adjusted the storytelling to be more reminiscent to those old YouTube videos like KSI and Smosh where they would have a funny voiceover whilst promoting their items. All and all it was an amusing video that I really enjoyed making and watching.
Mobile Application and Internet Assignment Showcase
For one of my subjects in university, my class final assignment was to do a video showcasing all of our previous assignment following the deliverables, this assignment required us to utilize the AI remove background tool in CapCut. This was back in 2024 and CapCut has since improved this tool but back then it was very choppy. As stated in the video most of the assignments were about learning software or tools that are related to designing website and mobile application, I didn't think too much on those assignments but the for the showcase I decided to have fun and edited it in a way that was fun to me.
Experience and skills

Scriptwriting
Occasionally I will write the scripts for videos or dialogues for characters. I have an understanding what dialogue feels and sounds natural based on a given scenario so the people speaking or conversing do not sound like a robot.

Video Editing
Very basic video editor, able to do subtitles and color grading as well as chop and compile videos. I am usually the person who edits the presentation videos when I am in a group assignment.

Event Volunteering
As a fan of animation and games, I attend ACG (animation comic and games) convention yearly and have since started volunteering for the biggest convention in Malaysia, Comic Fiesta and Animangaki. The experience has lead to opportunities to volunteer for other related events, even those that are hosted by international parties.

Military Part-Timer
An active member in the military reserve forces, completed army basic training back in 2024 and still attending weekly training whenever I have the free time on a monthly basis.
My Personal Works
I own a Nikon D50 which was previously my father's, he used the camera to take pictures of the family during Hari Raya Aidilfitri back in the day but has since stopped using it and allowed me to have it. I used it for a few assignments, but most of the time I use it to take pictures with my friends when we hang out and go out of state. The two photos shown were taken on separate occasions and different devices, the first photo was taken during a quick trip to Port Dickson with my Nikon.

My friend group back then, before most of the guys went back to their respective countries, would occasionally go down to Port Dickson to hang out at the beach. There were four of us during that time me, Asyraf, Arif and Nasrul, we went there to help me record a timelapse for an assignment and I brought my Nikon with me, we chilled under a large tree by the beach next to where the vendors are situated. We sat on rocks while we recorded a timelapse of the water rising for my assignment and passed the time talking with Nasrul because we haven't seen him for a while and taking photos with my Nikon messing with its settings. We took a lot of pointless photos but then at one point while Asyraf and Arif were smoking their cigarettes I jokingly pointed out that the tree has a knothole the shape of a woman's vagina, these talks tend to happen when me and my friends gets exhausted. Asyraf jokingly put his cigarette in front of the knothole and said " look the tree is smoking as well " , the group laughed and Arif jokingly put a fresh cigarette into the tree and starts burning the tip which was when I took the photo
and it turned out way better than any of us expected. What originated as a joke somehow allowed me to capture a unique sight with multiple implications possibles.

The second photo was captured on my phone instead because at that time my Nikon wasn't charged because it requires 2 batteries. Adam is another friend in my friend group, we lived together in an apartment that was close to the university but we've been friends for more than two years. He is from Ipoh, Perak so I don't get to see him as often anymore, but one day me, Arif and Asyraf planned a trip to Ipoh to see him and we brought along some mutuals just for the sake of it. The drive there was horrendous a given since it was on a weekend, me and Arif would swap in between stops for him to take over being the driver for our journey there until eventually we reached Adam's house. We couldn't enter his place because his sister was around, so he brought us to get a bite and walk around and view the busy streets of his neighborhood, one of the spots he took us was a Bookxcess and opposite of the store there was this street art of a lady on the a wall that was not properly maintained because bits of the wall where I assumed her bottom half would be was gone, coincidentally someone parked their motorbike right under her because there was a roof. I took the photo with my phone which is Redmi Note 10s, and was not that impressed with how it originally looked on my phone, so I edited it a bit with the photo editor by messing with some settings and sliders and achieved this aged look of this photo that I have now.

Photography
Back in 2023, I was having a rough patch cause my anxieties with my assignments were really having an effect on my mental health and I was feeling unaccomplished and worthless for a very long time. When 2024 started I made a resolution which was to record and upload something on my YouTube channel everyday as a way to keep my head occupied and less anxious worrying about my assignments, I did this video diary up until February and had to stop because I went for my army basic training in the middle of February. I tried to get back into it when I returned from training but as an army men even if I am a reserve there are certain things I am not allowed to post online that it got me worried to post anything cause my actions and my behavior is likely being monitored by my officers and the people in charge and I do not want to get in trouble with the military. The videos are still up on my YouTube channel and I look back on those times and knowing exactly what was through my head at that moment, it takes me back to a time where I still had my friends with me, before I joined the army and in some way I am proud of that me in the past who stayed consistent everyday to post regardless of how short the video was cause it showed a side of me that if I care about something enough I was able to do it.
